Trash for Trade is a Plastic Upcycling Social Enterprise.It is a social innovation idea developed from an open-source community, ‘Precious Plastic’ with the support of DreamSpace Academy. We have taken upon this initiative using the upcycling machinery our team has built.

Reduce the plastic waste ending up in inland water bodies and ocean, thus preventing ocean pollution

Shredded Plastic is the reusable raw material derived from the collected plastic waste, used for manufacturing plastic containers, PET bottles, and PVC products
Plastic pellets are tiny, disc-shaped granules of plastic that provide the required uniformity of components required for the plastic recycling process.
Building machineries for upcycling processes as Shredding, Injection, Extrusion, Sheet press, and Compression to create upcycled products
Upcycled plastic has the capability and potential to replace the conventional and wasteful construction materials such as hollow blocks, roofing sheets, etc

Trash for Trade is one of the commited teams who got selected to the Incubation Support Phase of HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge 2019. Out of the 12 teams being incubated from the 2019 cohort, Trash for Trade brought a unique idea to save the planet while supporting the plastic recycling process. The team consists of a bunch of young individuals from Uva Wellassa University and a few active young innovators from Batticaloa. Despite of the challenge of different members coming from different areas of the country, Trash for Trade sets an example for how a team can function together to contribute to the Sustainable Developement Goals as responsible youth.
